All going well.....

I finally figured it out! I had the old template for my blog and once I changed to a new template, all the problems went away! I am so happy now. I was able to put my banner in, and add my etsy mini to the page. Next, I will do a list of links to my favorite sites......I'm really having fun with this. I can't wait to really get this blog the way I want it. I am doing the happy dance tonight..........Have a good night, talk to you soon.

A Big Accomplishment

Hi Everybody, I am so excited! I have my etsy site up and running. The address is: http://sweetgirlythings.etsy.com if you want to go and take a look. In setting up the site, I learned a few things. I learned how to make and install a banner. I also learned how to make an Avatar. I had never even heard of an Avatar until a few months ago. Now I not only know how to do it, I have one! My next project will be to make a banner for this site. Wish me luck.......I'll probably need it. I was trying to put the etsy mini on this site for 2 days and finally gave up. I need to realign my brain molecules and then I'll try again. Oh, and I also have to lookup how to make a hidden link. I saw that somewhere. OK, one step at a time, I must remember that........

A Sweet Preview

I have been setting up my etsy account, and it is almost ready. I have been having a hard time getting onto the site today......maybe because it's Saturday.(?) I have a lot to do yet and I have to learn how to do a lot of it, so it could be a while before it's all set. Anyway, I wanted to give you a little peek at what I have to list. These sweet little petite four pincushions are the cutest. I used vintage buttons, vintage lace, and ribbon flowers, and ribbons. The petite fours are all fabric, handmade by myself, and stuffed with polyester. The square one has little seed beads hand sewn onto it. I have many vintage items to list also. The name of my little shop is: sweetgirlythings. I'll try again later.

Checkin' In

Just checkin' in. I am really excited, I have been checking out etsy, and I am thinking that I'll start a little store. It sounds like so much fun. I have been a member of eBay for about 7 or 8 years. And I like doing that, but hesitated to put my handcrafts there. Etsy sounds ideal and I have a lot of things I could list. So, I'm getting ready and I should have some stuff on there soon. I love this whole blogging thing and looking forward to meeting and making lots of new friends. So for now, I'll sign out, have a good night!

How I got my name

Even though Valentine's Day is over, I like the decorating I did for that holiday, and I have decided to keep most of it as it is. My home has always been decorated in the country theme and I love it, but lately I've been needing a little change. By incorporating some of these romantic roses and flowered items, I have created my romantic country home. That's how I came up with the name of my blog. A lot of the things that I moved to the living area were in my bedroom. I have lots of items with roses on them. I have always loved them. I am a gardener and I can grow lots of other flowers, but I only have two rosebushes. I really want to have about a dozen or so, but I must buy the wrong kinds because they never seem to make it through the winters here.

This is my dining room corner cabinet. The dining room is very small, so this cabinet takes up the least amount of room. I collect the dishes and plates with roses and flowers. I also collect the clear glass in the Wexford pattern.

This is a speaker that doesn't work, but I've kept it because it is smaller than a real table would be and it's nice to have more display space.

This is my dry sink at the end of the dining room. It has storage space in the bottom, where I store extra dishes and such.

This is my printer's tray that my daughter and her hubby gave to me for Christmas one year. I love it and I'm always looking for things that will fit into the little spaces.

This is my dining room table, somewhat made up for company.
Since I am new to blogging, I have a lot to learn, but so far it's been fun. I've spent many hours reading other's blogs and trying to figure out how to go about some of the things that I see here. I'm sure in no time I'll be right up there with the rest of you. (I hope). 'Til next time. Love ya, Jean

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! The long awaited day is finally here and it was a very good day. I wanted to show some of my decorations at my home. The first is my fireplace mantle. I don't have a lot of vintage Valentines, but I have lots that I saved over the years and so I put them on display. I love how they look and I like taking them down and reading them. Some of the poems and sayings are so beautiful and touching, bringing back memories of my loved ones.

This is the other side of the mantle. I have added more stuff since I took these pics. "One can never have too much stuff", is my motto. I should make a sign with that saying on it........

I found this little suitcase at a thrift store a few weeks ago. It is perfect for this and when I saw it, I knew exactly what I would do with it. I had planned on painting the outside, but haven't decided what to paint yet. I will do that when I decide. The inside is red satin, with side pockets and it is in very good condition. I love it!

I also found this little book and it goes perfectly with the whole theme.

This is a closeup of some of the things that I placed in it. Some Valentines, a jar of old buttons, a little paper heart box, a red silk rose, some lace, a doily, the "Love Sonnets" book, a Raggedy Ann doll, and a pair of vintage gloves.

Can one have too many collections?

Some of my collections have to stop growing! I am running out of room for them! I love them but may have to give up some of them. For instance, I have about 100 tins...in my shed. There were so many piled up on my dining room floor that when someone went to sit down for dinner, they couldn't help but knock some of them over. Thus, lots of noise as they hit the slate floor and everyone scrambling to pick them up. I still have a bunch of small ones on top of the corner cabinet. I keep looking up there and thinking that I need to clean and arrange and delete a few of those ones. Then there's the front window and the colored glass. I posted a pic earlier but I'm showing that again. I can't put one more piece of glass up there. What's a collector supposed to do when they run out of room?

This crafty feeling is coming over me again

Hi again, I haven't posted as much as I thought I would because I have been crafting things for my home for Valentine's Day and I made some little romantic victorian style trinket boxes for my two daughters and two grandaughters. I have three done and am working on the fourth. I have to get it finished soon, as I think they will be coming on Saturday night for dinner and I would like to give them to them that evening. I think they will like them. I don't have a pic yet, but I'll take one and after I give them their gifts, I will post the pic. This is a very busy time, but I did manage to finish this Victorian Cone and I do have a pic of it:

I like how it came out considering this is the first one I've ever made. I love crafting things and wish I had more time to devote to it.

I'm slowly learning the mechanics of this website, and I'm sure I'll figure it out sooner or later. It's been fun so far. Thanks for visiting me, leave a comment for me, and please do come back soon.
