A Celebration~~~My 100th Post!

It's time, sweeties. I am going to show you what I put in the big Giveaway for my 100th post celebration! It has taken me a long time to get to this point on Blogger, but to me it has been worth the trip. I have met so many nice, helpful, and friendly people in my venture and I hope that I will make many more friends in the future.

Because of my love of vintage items, and because I have noticed that vintage is very popular with so many of my fellow bloggers, I have chosen some items from my own personal collection of such items (my stash). I have also included some items that look vintage, but are not.

Now let me show you all the goodies~~

I forgot to take a picture of the ladies handkerchief in the first picture. It is very soft cotton with a hand crocheted pink edging.

And it seems that I also forgot to take a picture of the pair of candle holders that you see in the second collection picture. They are new and have very pretty pink roses on them.

Just checkin' in........

Yes, I'm still alive! I've been gardening and working. I've started replacing the rest of the bushes in the front foundation planting. Some of those have been in there for 39 years, at least. Some were put in after that. They are all overgrown!! I don't have any pictures, been too busy to take them. I have one more huge Rhododendren left, so I will take a picture of that one. The others are gone, so it's too late for them. I replaced some last summer and I have been wanting to get to the rest, and the time has finally come! I am still trying to visit all my blogging friends that left such sweet comments on my Rooster blog, so please bear with me. I need more hours in my day, but I will get there eventually. This is my 95th post, so I will be having my 100th post giveaway soon. I'll be showing what I will be giving away very soon. Stop back often. 'Til next time, Love ya, Jean

My Roosters......

Here are my roosters:


This one was handmade by me. I used a piece of pine wood. I woodburned the outline and then I painted inside that with watered down acrylic paint. It looks like watercolor as the wood shows through a little. I sealed it with acrylic spray. I was going to put a little red wood strip around the outside edge and never got around to it. Maybe someday I will do that. This is a carved rooster and chicken that I want to show you. They usually sit up on a shelf in my kitchen, but I thought I would bring them down so you could get a closer look at them. These are handmade. Not by me, but by someone that was very good at carving wood. The rooster and chicken are made from a piece of (I think) a maple branch. They are amazing to look at and I wonder where the artist learned to do this.

This is the base of the chicken....it's legs are set into another piece of maple branch.

The chicken's face and comb is not as elaborate as the rooster's.

This is a forked branch, which makes up the body and the tail.

Look at how the tail is made. It is the branch with many cuts down into it and then spead out somehow to make it look fuller.

On the bottom of the rooster it says: (handwritten in ink) "The Hayloft 1987 Jim Longest Guitar picker". So, obviously, it was a souvenier. I found him at the Salvation Army about 8 years ago. I found the chicken at a yard sale, in a box on the ground, a few years later. There was a bunch of other stuff thrown in the box with it. I couldn't believe my eyes! I couldn't believe that they matched and I was amazed that I found the pair of them in two different places, and a few years apart. I quess they were just meant to be mine. If anyone has any information on this craft, please let me know, I'd be interested to learn more about these.



I don't use this as a cutting board, there's too much work in it to risk messing it up......

I do love it and I think I will put that border on it and hang it in my kitchen.

We climbed that mountain!

On Sunday, we decided we would take a hike. We went to Mt Wachusett, which is actually a ski area here in MA. It's only about 2000 ft., not a large mountain by any standards. It was a good time and harder than we imagined it would be. Here is me and my sweetie at the top. Yes, we did make it to the top! This was the view when we got there!

Here we were almost to the top and taking a lunch break.

This was taken before we started out. Don't they all look nice and fresh?

My grandson looks dwarfed by this huge rock. There are lots of rocks this size and billions of smaller ones that we had to climb on most of the time.

Oh, did I mention that it was 90 degrees and VERY humid. It made the climb very hard and not real comfortable, but 4 hours later, we prevailed--we did it! We climbed that mountain! Why? 'Cause it was there! LOL Seriously, we all had fun and we'll do it again, sometime when it's a little cooler.

MY 5 CURRENT OBSESSIONS ARE:

1. Gardening- I love it and I never have enough time to do all that I want to. And the weather does not cooperate very much lately.

2. Blogging-Although lately I've been more absent than present.

3. Thrift store shopping. I can't get enough and I've been looking for "stuff" for my upcoming Give-Away.

4. Facebook-is a new attraction and the games have drawn me in.

5. Doing stuff with my 7 yr old grandson, while he's out of school for the summer. He's going back in two weeks, bummer!



I am not going to pass the award on to any other blogs at this time. I have passed on several awards in the last few months and I know everyone is so busy at this time. Summer is not going to last much longer. So, I will do this later on when we are all snowed in and have nothing better to do.

What's blooming today?

Come, take a little walk with me. We'll see what's blooming today--------

First is the Flames of Fantasy Daylily. I planted this daylily in 1990---19 yrs ago!!! Talk about a long-lived plant.........(and getting my money's worth)

This daylily is called Catherine Woodbury. It is a very soft pink with a yellow throat. It blooms for a very long time.

Tall Phlox is also blooming and smells so good. This is a very fragrant plant and comes in many colors. This is a plain pink.

This one is called "Pink Eyes".

This is a darker pink one.
