Maple Syrup Time...

I have a silver maple tree out behind my shed...
It gives me the most delicious maple syrup
(with a little work on my part).

I discovered this 3 years ago.
I was browsing the internet and found
an article about making the syrup.
It said that you could tap trees
other than sugar maples.
I didn't know that!
Some others are:  Sycamore,  Black Walnut,
Birch, Norway Maple, and some others.

So I thought I'd give it a try.
To my surprise,  it is delicious!
So I am hooked!
I look forward to this every year now!
This year has been pretty good,  so far.
The temperatures have to be right
and that doesn't always happen!
I got another pint and a half last night.

My BFF over at Our Cozy Abode , (Lady Jane)
sent me a label for my first batch of syrup.
I lost that label,
but I found that I could make
these cute labels on the Avery site...

Now I make them for all the canning that I do...

Love that gold...

It's a lot of work and time invested,
but I think it is well worth it.
And I am retired,  so I have time!
Plus,  it is fun and I enjoy it very much!
Do you have a tree that you could tap?

Thank you for visiting!
Have a great weekend,  Everyone!

'Til next time,
Love ya,  Jean

How fun! The syrup looks delicious, Jean. I never knew you could tap some of these trees. Growing up we had a black walnut tree in our yard.

Thanks, Mildred! I haven't tried any of the others because I only have that one tree. I revised my last post with a link about the dresses, in case you couldn't find the article.

How wonderful that you can make your own syrup from your own tree! I had a friend who used to live in Vermont and every year when she came to visit me, she would bring fresh maple syrup! How much I miss her and that special treat!

I had no idea, either, that other trees could be tapped. Your golden syrup looks so wonderfully delicious! You mentioned that the temperature needs to be just right, so I would imagine we are way too far south to have any luck making maple syrup here.

This is so interesting Jean! I always thought it had to be a special maple as well. Your syrup looks absolutely delicious!! I have a small Maple. It actually started from a seed from my neighbors home. Maybe someday. :)

Yes to making your own food...safe, clean, good for you! I must have a tree I could tap and am in process of deciding which trees to plan so a maple is now on that list. Thanks!
