Betty Love...

I love both these ladies...

What do these two ladies have in common?
They are both named "Betty White"!
The actress is my favorite and so I named the machine after her...
The actress is 90 yrs young...
My machine will be 50 yrs young Nov. 12, 2013...
I'm hoping that the machine makes it to the actress's age...
I still use her to sew the tops of the baby quilts,
among other things...
I bought her in 1963, in Lewiston, Maine
for $72.25 including tax!
I think I got my money's worth!!

Makeover...

I have this sweater that I love, but the neck was too tight...
You know how that is,
you pull and tug at it the whole time you have it on!
It was either:  give it away or fix it!
So I decided to try and fix it...

The pictures don't show it, but it is the most heavenly shade of pale aqua...

So, I was able to remove the turtle neck part...

This is how it looked when it came off...

I unraveled some of the yarn and put it on a TP roll
to keep it relatively untangled...

I first whip stitched it by hand, with the yarn,
and then to keep the inside seam in place,
I did the running stitch around it.
This is the front...

The back view...

The new restyled sweater...
Who knew this could be done?
Now I can wear it again!
Do you have any turtlenecks that you could makeover?

Lots of Baby Quilts...

I have been sewing like a mad woman in the last 5 days!  I finally broke down and bought a "walking foot" for quilting on my sewing machine.  It allows you to do machine quilting without any slippage between  the two fabrics and the batting.  You get a nice flat quilt with no puckers or bunches at the ends of the rows of quilting.  This thing is worth every penny that I paid for it and I wish I had done it sooner!
Teddy Bears

Dogs and Lady Bugs

Citrus Colors--(need sunglasses for this one)

Kitty--I did an outline stitch around it,
so it stands out...

These blocks were already sewn ~~
I did the sashing, the backing and the binding...
This is called a sampler quilt,
because all the blocks are different.

This backing is cute~~Teddy Bears with balloons...

This was fabric from my own stash...

I love doing these baby quilts...
they are all about 24" square and they don't take much time to make.

I hope you enjoyed seeing what I've been up to this past week.  I'm trying to stay off the computer, and to be more productive.  I have my blog, Facebook, and now Pinterest to eat up my time, and I need a way to be able to use them all and still be productive.  And then there's my minis, too!  Good thing I'm retired, (and loving it).  I wouldn't have time to work these days!!

Impromptu Dinner...

On Saturday, my daughter called and asked how to make a Korean dinner.  She wanted to go buy the ingredients and put it all together.  My DBF told them (her and her family) to come over and he would show them how to do it.  He lived in Korea for 8 yrs and knows how to make this.  We invited my other daughter and her family and it turned into a party!

This is a bowl of Barbeque Beef Strips that will be cooked
on the grill that you see above.

This is cooked on a butane powered stove on the table
 where you are eating.
Please excuse the christmas table cloth--
you need a plastic one as this can get a little messy...
and this is the only plastic one I have.

We had two stoves and an electric griddle.
There are 12 of us altogether, so we need to make a lot!

The smell is just incredible!

When the beef is cooked, you take a big lettuce leaf
and start piling the stuff on.

This is called Miso paste.  It is made with soybeans, hot pepper sauce and a little sesame oil.
It adds lots of flavor to the lettuce rolls.

This is one that they bought at the Oriental store.
DBF's was better.

This is a platter of Marinated Vegetables.
This goes along with everything else....

White rice, and Kim Chee (pickled cabbage) are
also added to the the little package.
So pile everything onto the lettuce leaf, fold it up into a bundle and enjoy!
Oh so good!
And so much fun, without a lot of forethought!
So they learned how to make it, and hopefully the next time they make it, they'll invite us over!
