Laundry Time...........

I don't have a Laundry Room, just a place off the kitchen in my workroom that has my washer and dryer. These are some of my laundry collectibles.


I found this "parrot" at the Salvation Army.

I'm sorry for the glare on this picture. I don't know how to remove pictures once they are posted.

Some other stuff hangin' around.

I found the old thermometer in a pile of wood.



I also have some washboards hanging up there. I wish I had more room to hang more of them.

This is the one that I used for many years when I first got married. It was good for scrubbing really dirty spots on clothes, especially socks.

These are some of the laundry aides that I've collected over the years.

Ugg! To think that I really did make this starch and use it on my husband's shirts. It had to be cooked and then thinned with water to the right strength. It was poured onto the wet clothes and wrung out and then the clothes had to be hung on the clothesline to dry. Then the clothes had to be sprinkled with water and let sit for a while to evenly distribute the moisture and then they had to be ironed. What a job that was! They looked really nice when they were all finished.

Ivory soap was used for everything. Bathing, clothes, shampooing hair, there were all sorts of uses for it. Most women bathed their babies with it because it was "99/44 100% pure".

The Octagon and Fels-Naptha soaps were used mostly for cleaning, floors, woodwork and anything that needed a good scrubbing.

I hope you enjoyed this little walk back through time. It seems like it was just yesterday.
